Because I can’t let things go….A rather fine crunchy new potatoes recipe.

Crunchy new potatoes recipe – Recipes – BBC Good Food.

  1. Heat oven to 200C/fan 180C/gas 6. Boil the potatoes for 10 mins, then drain well. Arrange on a baking sheet, then crush each one lightly with a potato masher. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with paprika, sea salt and freshly ground black pepper. Bake for 20 mins until crispy.

Not bad…. although you could vary this, maybe incorporate a little bit of garlic and some other herbs…. mmm.

30 Rocket Potato Seeds! Go me!

Just Planted….

Rocket Potato Seed.

Ok, some say ‘bland!’ others say they’re ok….but me, well…

Well strictly speaking I didn’t have an opinion since it was a impulse buy – Only now do I discover the overwhelming crys of ‘don’t bother’.

As a vegetarian though, I’m fairly certain that nothing can’t be solved with liberal herbs, spices and a bit of imagination. I will be posting any good recipes for this much maligned of early potato.

And if it all goes wrong, well there’s always the ‘Kestrels’ for the main crop….mmmm 🙂

How not to start your allotment adventure….

Leave your property without knowing that it has to be nailed down to discourage pilferers!

Oh well, if someone really needs to steal my plastic sheeting…..

Slabs down for the Shed base (yes, I’m capitalising it!) and planning the layout – leeks, beetroot, strawberrys, courgettes, pumpkins, basil – and much more!

Shed Fever!

I have some concrete slabs, courtesy of a nice man on Freecycle, and will be putting down a nice firm base for a shed.

Do you hear that?

A shed, I say!

This is getting very serious.

I now own some dirt :)

….and it’s very good dirt, because its a little plot on an allotment. In it, I’m going to grow lot’s of lovely fruit and vegetables, and generally feel a bit smug.

At least that’s the idea.

The only problem is that I sort of don’t know what I’m doing. Well a little bit of what I’m doing – I mean I have books on the subject and I’ve grown one or two things reasonably successfully. Namely tomatoes and blackberrys. Blackberrys are simple. I shall outline the technique here. Purists may argue, experts may snigger, but secretly they know this is correct.

1) Water

2) Aim at the sky

3) Run for cover

I digress, though, mainly because this is a lot of land for a novice to till/turn/dig. About 6m by…erm… a bit more. And it’s only half a plot.

This is what we own, by way of a short inventory.

1x Patch of earth

Some grass

Various abandoned strawberry plants

A blackberry bush in need of pruning

A garlic patch

A bag of manure
And now?

Time to hit Freecycle 🙂

PS Pictures soon of this new little empire!
